Amnesty

Facts & Figures (.PDF)

Guestworker Programs (.PDF)

Dear Reader,

I have received numerous inquiries concerning so called amnesty. It does not exist. I update this page daily and will inform you when such program will become available to the illegal immigrants in the United States. There are currently many bills pending in the US Congress many of which contain amnesty like provisions. None of the have been passed. Pending bills are not law. In my opinion, none of them will be passed in foreseeable future.

In January of 2004, President Bush announced a new working visa program which many immigrants mistook for an amnesty. Indeed, if this proposal will ever become law, it may help many immigrants but not all and it was never meant as an amnesty. In any event, both liberal and conservative political forces in the US opposed this new program and this initiative was frozen in its tracks.

After being reelected, President Bush has made immigration reform an issue again and is promising to spend some of his newly gained political capital on this reform. There are many political forces which oppose such reform but the economical, political and security issues dictate that an immigration reform must be made. Feel free to check for legislative updates from Washington from many reputable websites like AILA on the development of specific immigration bills or regularly check this page for information on the immigration reform (so, called amnesty) which is on the political agenda of our President.

Sincerely Yours,

Andre R. Sobolevsky, Esq.
